Best bets from Belmont Park on Saturday

Nick Shiambouros was on the mark yesterday when both his selections won. Nick returns to Belmont Park with two more fancies from the outstanding card…

Cantana the big improver

Race 5 19:30 Belmont Park – Cantana

Cantana should go close in this mouthwatering Grade 1 on the main track.

This Stonestreet filly was most impressive when winning a Maiden Special Weight at Saratoga in August. She swept to the front at the entrance to the straight and cruised clear to win with any amount in hand.

This was one of the best two-year-old performances of the year in my opinion. This is a much tougher assignment, but believe she is up to the task. Spinaway winner Vequist is the likely favourite so recommend backing her at BSP.

Prioritize the first choice

Race 9 21:48 Belmont Park – Prioritize

I am going to take a chance with Prioritize is this historic Grade 1 on the main track.

This tough gelding finished third to Global Campaign in the Woodward at Saratoga last month. He made up a lot of ground in the closing stages but could not get to grips with the game winner. He has a bit to find with short priced favourite Tacitus, but jockey Luis Saez will probably make more use of him this time.

Trainer Jimmy Bond is more than capable of getting one ready, and this likeable individual has been working well. He will be a decent price so BSP is recommended.
