Best bets from Belmont Park on Sunday

Nick Shiambouros heads back to Belmont Park with two selections from the Sunday card…

Pier Forty to repeat

Race 3 19:02 Belmont Park – Pier Forty

Pier Forty is my idea of the winner of this $25k non-winner of three on the main track.

This gelding bounced back to form when beating Scotty in a $16k non-winner of two earlier this month. He took the lead at the entrance to the straight, and never looked back under a confidant ride by Irad Ortiz. He has a bit to find with a few of these, but comes in to this race in cracking form. The Noda stable is on fire with a 29% strike rate, and Irad Ortiz rides back for connections. BSP is recommended.

Miss Teheran the boss

Race 8 21:40 Belmont Park – Miss Teheran

Miss Teheran should go close in this $100k optional claimer on the inner turf.

This Teofilo mare finished fourth to Micheline in a valuable Grade 2 at Tampa Bay Downs in March. She was forced wide in to the straight, but finished strongly and was not beaten all that far. This was a super effort considering she did not get the run of the race. The turf course at Belmont Park will suit her running style. She should be able to sit behind the leaders, and come with her run around the furlong marker. Jockey Javier Castellano will give her every assistance from the saddle. Anything around 3.55/2 will do.
