Victoria Azarenka vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Prediction

Victoria Azarenka and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will go head-to-head for the seventh time in their careers on Sunday when they take to the court in the fourth round. Azarenka currently holds the edge with a 5-1 head-to-head record, and the only win Pavlyuchenkova has recorded came when Azarenka retired from a match.

Azarenka has had a rather tough 2021, having been battling a back injury. Prior to playing in the Madrid Open, the last tournament she had competed in was the Miami Open in March. Additionally she had to retire from her Round of 32 match against Pegula in Madrid. But despite the ongoing injury, she has played solid here in Paris, and thankfully there’s been no sign of the injury affecting her play. She dominated Madison Keys in the third round, winning 6-2, 6-2.

Pavlyuchenkova has played quite a bit of tennis in 2021, and entered the French Open following a semifinal appearance in Madrid. She’ll entered her fourth round match on a high after upsetting No. 3 seed, and a favorite to win the tournament Aryna Sabalenka, winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-0.

This has all the makings for a really exciting match, and I do think the confidence that Pavlychenkova will have after her third round win might give her the edge in this match.

Best Bet: Pavlyuchenkova (+148)

Sloane Stephens vs Barbora Krejcikova Prediction

Stephens, the 2018 French Open runner up will take on Krejcikova in the fourth round on Monday. This will be the first meeting between the two players, and is sure to be a close one as they fight for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Stephens, who’s been on tour for a while now, hadn’t played that well over the past couple of years. It seems as though she has started to find her form again in the past couple of months. She’s still not as consistent as she once was, but it really looks like she’s found her confidence. Specifically here in Paris she has defeated two seeded opponents, with her most recent win happening against Karolina Muchova where she won 6-3, 7-5.

Krejcikova has always been a household name when talking doubles. But in 2021, she has continued to prove herself as a singles player. And she entered the French Open coming off a title win in Strasbourg. On route to the fourth round here in Paris she upset fifth seed Elina Svitolina last round winning 6-3, 6-3.

I do believe this will be a close match between the two players, but there’s something about Stephens right now, she’s been playing like she once did, and I think she’ll take that confidence into the next round. Both players are very solid from the baseline, and play with variety, so be prepared for a match full of different shots to win points.

Best Bet: Stephens (+143)

Sofia Kenin vs Maria Sakkari Prediction

Another exciting fourth round match will be between World No. 5 Sofia Kenin and World No. 18 Maria Sakkari. This will be the fourth meeting between the two players, and Kenin holds the head-to-head record edge 2-1. But their most recent meeting came earlier this year at the Abu Dhabi quarterfinals where Sakkari won in three sets.

Both players are coming off three set wins over their third round opponents. Kenin came back from behind after dropping her first set, to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, over fellow American Jessica Pegula. Sakkari on the other hand dropped the second set to force a decider where she was able to take control and upset 14th seed Elise Mertens 7-5, 6(2)-7(7), 6-2.

Kenin is now in the Round of 16 for the third straight yet, and Sakkari has made the fourth round of the French Open for the first time in her career.

This is anyone’s match, but it should be a close one. Expect this one to go the distance.
