- Haiti and Canada meet on Matchday 2 of Gold Cup Group B
- Canada won their first match, while the Haitians suffered a one-goal defeat to the USA
- The Canadians are heavily favored to win the match at -290
Haiti and Canada is a pivotal match in the group stage. The Canadians got a comfortable win in their opening match, while Haiti are in desperate need of a win after losing to the USA on Matchday 1.
Haiti have suffered defeat in eight of their last nine matches against Canada. This includes two defeats in the recent round of World Cup qualifiers. They are also missing several key players due to COVID-19.
Canada are riding a great run of form in 2021. The combination of those factors makes it no surprise that Les Rouges are heavy betting favorites for this encounter. DraftKings tabs Canada as -290 favorites on the moneyline. They haven’t lost since a January 2020 defeat to Iceland.

Canada have bad memories of facing Haiti in the Gold Cup. A five-goal thriller in the last eight in 2019 ended Canada’s campaign. Haiti scored three times in the second half to overturn an early two-goal deficit, leaving the Canadians heartbroken.
That was Haiti’s first win against Canada since 1973. They had lost their previous six meetings before that comeback win, and the Canucks have reasserted their dominance in this fixture since then with two wins in World Cup qualifying last month.

History suggests, like the odds, that this is a mismatch. Haiti has also struggled in their matches following defeats over the last few years. Their loss to the Americans was not a surprise, but it puts them under immense pressure ahead of this match.

Haiti mustered just three shots on target against the USA, despite being behind from the eighth minute onwards. Their difficulties going forward are a concern ahead of this one. Canada have not allowed more than two shots on target in their last seven outings, and their freak goal conceded against Martinique was the first goal they have let in since March.

It’s hard to properly evaluate this Haiti attack on goals scored and chances created alone. The strength of their opponents has varied greatly. Heavy wins against Saint Vincent and The Grenadines and Bermuda doesn’t tell us much about their ability to break down this Canada defense.

The fixtures between these sides last month in World Cup Qualifying are the best indicator of how this match will play out. Possession was relatively even in the first clash, but Haiti were still limited to four total shots and Canada won 1-0. Canada had all the ball in the second leg, and eventually ran out 3-0 winners. Les Bicolores registered a grand total of three shots on target across the tie – there’s value on Haiti to score under 0.5 goals at -130.

Canada Continue Dominant Form
Canada has won all of their matches in 2021. They were in dominant form as they saw off Martinique on Matchday 1, which is an ominous sign for Haiti.
Since their shock Gold Cup defeat two years ago, nine of Canada’s 11 wins have come by at least two goals. Where they slipped up from a comfortable lead in the quarterfinals in 2019, they have made a habit of killing games off. They are more ruthless, and their attack is in fine form.
Credit to Haiti tonight. Dealing with tons of adversity (turmoil back home, starters out due to COVID), they put up a helluva fight and looked tactically sound and resilient.
Interested to see if they can pick up points off of Canada and make a run out of Group B.

Canada to win to nil is sitting at -120. It’s worth taking the shorter price on the -1.5 spread as insurance against a goal for Haiti.
Pick: Canada -1.5 (-125)
