Manchester United is favored to continue a nine-game unbeaten run at home against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday even though all four of their defeats this season have come at their Old Trafford HQ.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United side sits in second place in the table but is 14 points behind runaway leaders and close rivals Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Brighton has just recorded two straight wins and is placed in 16th spot with a cushion of six points from the relegation zone.

Odds as of April 2

With kick-off at 2:30pm ET, DraftKings heavily favors United for a win at -152. On the other hand, Brighton is priced at +450 with the draw at +285. During its nine-match undefeated spell, United has drawn five times.

Therefore, the draw price may look attractive – especially given the recent up-turn in Brighton’s form. Further, of their 14 home fixtures, United has managed to win only half – with a record of seven wins, three draws and four defeats.

Four Clean Sheets in a Row

But United has kept four straight cleans sheets so if Brighton is to get a point, it may have to be done the gritty and cautious way.

However, Brighton hit the woodwork five times – an EPL record – when these sides clashed last September. Certainly, they have proven they can create opportunities against United.

After scoring 16 times in their last four home games, the spread option for United to win by two or more at +160 could be a promising option (Asian Handicap -1.25).

It should be remembered, however, that more than half of those goals came in the 9-0 thrashing of a hapless Southampton outfit on February 2.

After that, they drew 3-3 with Everton at home and then beat Newcastle United 3-1 at Old Trafford, before a 1-0 defeat of West Ham on their own patch last time out before the international break.

The title is well beyond United’s aspirations now. But, with nine matches remaining, coach Solskjaer is keen to cement a qualification place for next season’s Champions League.

Their tally of 57 points currently hands them an eight-point comfort zone in the hunt for a precious top-four finish, with West Ham United in fifth place on 49 points.

However, there may be injury problems ahead of this game for coach Solskjaer, particularly in attack.

French forward Anthony Martial is the most serious doubt after picking up a knee injury during the international break.

England pair Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are also under scrutiny but have, at least, resumed training after missing England and England U21 duties during the break.

Influential midfielder Paul Pogba, however, is set to return for his first EPL appearance in two months after recovering from a thigh injury.

Brighton’s Hot and Cold Form

Graham Potter’s Brighton team has certainly blown hot and cold this season.

In successive games on January 31 and February 3, they were home 1-0 winners against Tottenham Hotspur and 1-0 victors at Liverpool.

But then came a run of five straight defeats which began with draws against Burnley and Aston Villa – and, subsequently, featured three straight defeats against Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City.

When Brighton last visited Old Trafford in November, 2019, there was a 3-1 success for United.

After that, there has been another flip. First, there was a 2-1 win at Southampton. Last time out, there was a valuable 3-0 win at home against fellow strugglers Newcastle United.

There was a 3-2 win for United when these teams last met at Brighton’s Amex Stadium on England’s South Coast last September.

When Brighton last visited Old Trafford in November, 2019, there was a 3-1 success for United.

On that occasion, United’s first goal came from a penalty scored by Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes – a sign that he was going to be an influential figure in his first full season at the club.

He has subsequently scored 15 more EPL goals. And he has been such a powerful creative force for the team that he is in line to win the major player of the year awards given in England.

Meanwhile, Brighton’s leading league scorer is the Frenchman Neal Maupay who has a tally of eight goals.

In conclusion, the draw price is the better option here than the spread offer. And Brighton is certainly capable of getting a vital away point.
