Two MVP-level talents will share the same floor Thursday night, when the Dallas Mavericks and young phenom Luka Doncic head east to take on the Philadelphia 76ers. They’ll have the tall task of trying to handle Joel Embiid, who’s ready to get back to dominating after the Raptors found a way to slow him down during a two-game mini-set.
The Sixers are 5.5-point home favorites, but let’s check out the player props in this one and see if we can’t cash in on the side of what should be a great game in the City of Brotherly Love.

Odds taken Feb. 24th from FanDuel
Remember that ugly stretch of shooting we were witnessing from Doncic? He opened the year 2-for-21 from beyond the arc in his first four games, registering a goose egg in three of them. And while he was posting monster numbers through January, he was still shooting triples at a pedestrian 33% clip.
Luka Doncic during the 6-1 stretch that pulled the Mavs up to .500:
34.0 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 8.6 apg, 51.9 FG%, 48.3 3%

His failure to deliver the money ball was part of the reason Dallas went into a tailspin at the end of January, dropping five straight and seven of eight at the turn of the month.
But Luka is cooking now, especially on this most recent tear that’s seen Dallas go 6-1 in their last seven. Their latest win? Delivered by Doncic, a side-step three that looked eerily similar to his playoff KO of the Clippers in Game 4 of last year’s opening round playoff series.

In his last seven games, Doncic has gone a blistering 29-for-60 from deep, a healthy 48.3%, and he’s hit at least three pointers in six of those games. Philadelphia ranks 10th in 3-point defense, holding teams to shoot 36.5% from the floor.
There’s also a chance that Ben Simmons is Luka’s primary cover, and that should be a dynamite matchup.
Still, I like the hot streak the kid is on, and it’s fun to try and ride a wave.
The pick: Doncic OVER 2.5 3-pointers made (-128)
Embiid Breaks Out
In the midst of an MVP campaign — one where he has been hands down one of the best players in hoops — it’s odd to hear that Joel Embiid needs to bounce back.
Fred VanVleet has been an All-Defensive guy this season. He’s so good at making smart digs and helping on the ball, and stops what would have been a score for Embiid past Boucher here. pic.twitter.com/wh7d90H6BH

But that’s exactly what Philly is hoping for after a not-so-pleasant trip to Tampa where they split a mini-set with the Toronto Raptors. Embiid has his worst shooting game of the season in the opener: a 6-for-20 dud (30%), but topped that (bottomed that?) last game, going 3-for-13 from the field. That’s 23.1% for those scoring at home.
Embiid had shot under 50% from the field just eight times all season prior to this back-to-back set.
11 of the Sixers 17 threes tonight were from the corner.

In doing so, his streak of 25+ point performances halted at 14 games. His teammates did pick him up though, to earn the road split.
Dallas is 18th in field goal defense, letting teams shoot it at a 46.9% mark, and their 23rd in points allowed, giving up better than 113 a night.

This feels like a get right game for Embiid, though there could be some reluctance as Rick Carlisle can scheme with the best of them, and he has some bodies that can go at him, including Willie Cauley-Stein, Boban Marjanovich, Dwight Powell and, if able to play, Kristaps Porzingis.
Don’t let the Toronto series sway you. In the previous 13 games before that set, Embiid had scored less than 31 all of two times.
The pick: Embiid OVER 30.5 points (-104)
