He pitched seven shutout innings to beat the Giants on Monday in San Francisco in his latest turn. Kim limited them to three hits while striking two, walking two and setting a season high for innings.
It was also his first road win of the season and just his second quality start in 14 outings. Kim is 1-4 with a 3.51 ERA in seven games away from St. Louis and 1-3 with a 3.71 ERA in seven starts at night.
Kim has faced the Cubs just once in his two-year career. That came last season at Wrigley Field when he got a no-decision while giving up one run in 3.2 innings.
Kim is backed up by All-Star closer Alex Reyes, who has converted all 20 save opportunities this season and is 22 for 22 in his career.

Reyes is one away from the MLB record for most consecutive converted save chances to begin a career.
Infielder/outfielder Kris Bryant did not start Friday for a second straight game because of a tight right hamstring but the All-Star hit a three-run double as a pinch hitter. He is questionable for Saturday.
Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is hitting .300 (9 for 30) in his last nine games.

Davies Tough on Cardinals
Davies has faced the Cardinals twice this season and pitched 11.2 scoreless innings. He has a win and a no-decision, raising his career record against them to 3-3 with a 3.78 ERA in 12 starts while working at least six innings 11 times.

Davies is 1-2 with a 5.14 ERA in his last four starts overall. He faced the Philadelphia Phillies at home Monday and did not factor in the decision while allowing two runs and four hits in five innings with one strikeout and two walks.
In nine home starts this season, Davies is 3-2 with a 4.10 ERA. He is 3-4 with a 5.18 ERA in 12 starts at night. Davies has logged four quality starts in 18 games overall.
The Cubs have two of MLB’s hottest relievers at the back end of their bullpen. Left-hander Andrew Chafin has made 23 scoreless appearances in a row covering 24 innings and closer Craig Kimbrel has a 0.46 ERA in his last 40 games dating to last season.
Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter 13 for 27 (.481) against Davies with five doubles and three home runs while center fielder Harrison Bader is 5 for 6 with one double and one homer.

Shortstop Paul DeJong has struggled against Davies, though, going 2 for 11 (.182) with six strikeouts.
All Cubs in ‘21
The Cubs lead the season series 6-1, including five wins in a row.
On Friday, Patrick Wisdom hit a two-run homer to help spark the Cubs’ win.
Bryant’s double started Chicago’s five-run seventh inning before Wisdom went deep against his former team. Joc Pederson doubled twice, one of which drove in three runs in the first inning.

The teams have played on close terms prior to 2021. The Cardinals were 25-23 against the Cubs during the previous three seasons.
Look for the Cardinals to turn the tables on the Cubs in this one now that Kim pitching better than he has all season.
