Philadelphia opened up as a 5.5-point favorite, while the questionable status of some of Brooklyn’s stars is currently keeping the total off the board – more on that later. The Sixers smashed Dallas by 18 on Monday, with Joel Embiid and the defense once again leading the way.
Philly Pounds Dallas
Embiid splashed 36 points and racked up 7 boards against the Mavs, while Furkan Korkmaz added 20 and two other Sixers reached double-figures.

Philly’s defense clamped down on Luka Doncic and company holding them to 95 points, and 42.2% from the field. The Sixers limited Dallas to 25% from beyond the arc, and forced 15 turnovers en route to sweeping the season series.
Philadelphia ranks seventh in points against, fourth in opponent field-goal percentage, and have forced turnovers at the league’s third highest rate. They’ve limited each of their past four opponents to 101 points or less, and their stingy defense has caused an overwhelming number of their games to stay under the total.

The under has hit in five straight Sixers contests, and in 10 of their past 12. Philly’s D will be tested on Wednesday, as Brooklyn enters play as the league’s best shooting team, and second highest scoring unit.

The Nets offensive prowess was on display Tuesday, even without James Harden (hamstring), Kyrie Irving (personal), and LaMarcus Aldridge (illness). They racked up 127 points against the T-Wolves, with Kevin Durant leading the way. KD poured in 31 points in just 27 minutes, going 11-of-15 from the field in his third game back from injury.

Joe Harris added 23, while Landry Shamet splashed 19 off the bench, helping Brooklyn build a 23 point lead midway through the second quarter, and a 45 point cushion by the fourth.
The Nets shot 50.5% from the field, and 41.7% from three, just three days after being waxed by 25 by the shorthanded Lakers. That performance notwithstanding, Brooklyn has actually been much better defensively over the past 11 outings. They’ve held eight of their past 11 opponents to 112 points or less, which is 2.5 points lower than their season average.

The strong defensive performance has produced more unders in their recent contests than usual, as eight of their past 12 games have failed to eclipse the total.
Stick With Sixers
With Philadelphia among the top defensive teams in the NBA, and Brooklyn playing better in its own end recently, it may be foolish to expect a shootout. Also working against the possibility of a high-scoring affair, is the availability of Durant and Irving.
Steve Nash said the Nets will assess things with Kevin Durant tonight & tomorrow morning before a decision is made about his status for tomorrow’s game vs. PHI. Nash also said the availability of Kyrie Irving for Sixers game is still to be determined.

Head Coach Steve Nash was non-committal about the status of KD and Kyrie, and with Harden already sidelined, now is the time to pounce on the Sixers -5.5. If one or both of Durant and Irving are ruled out, the line will surely climb in Philly’s favor, so acting now before news surfaces is key.
The last time Brooklyn was missing all three of Harden, Durant and Irving, they lost by 30 in Utah, and another lopsided loss could be in store if the Big 3 all sit.
Pick: Philadelphia 76ers -5.5 (-110)
