Niklas Astedt earns two big online poker wins over the weekend

Poker pros often compete in online poker events over the weekend to rack up wins or at least cashouts to build a solid bankroll. Often times, players will log in to several sites and take part in the big guaranteed events to increase the odds of winning. For Swedish poker pro Niklas Astedt, this past weekend was spent playing at PokerStars and partypoker, with two wins added to his resume.

The Grand at partypoker

On Sunday, Astedt took part in The Grand at partypoker. This event has a buy-in of $1,050 and offers a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool. For this tournament, 230 players competed, with 39 set to earn a payout.

In the end, Astedt found himself in the heads-up round with Damian Salas, a fellow poker pro. Astedt was able to maintain the chip lead and eliminate Salas in second place to claim the first place win of $45,062. Salas had to settle for $31,453 in prize money.

Similar Win at PokerStars

The very same day, PokerStars hosts the Sunday Supersonic. Like the partypoker tournament, this event has a buy-in of $1,050. This tournament would end up being a quick win for Astedt, as it took just over an hour and a half to play. Earning just over $23,000 for the finish, it was a big payday for the poker player all-around when the day ended.

Astedt was able to secure the win, after taking down Pedro Padilha in the heads-up round. After this win, Astedt was more than $68,000 richer, thanks to the two online poker wins.

Sundays are busy days at online poker rooms like PokerStars and partypoker due to the guaranteed events on offer. Amateurs, as well as professionals, hit the felt to take advantage of the big events in the hopes of padding their accounts with a few cashouts.

Take PokerStars for example. The site offers several Sunday events including the Sunday Warm-up, several Sunday SuperSonic events, high roller events as more. Buy-ins start relatively low and increase into the day to provide players of all bankrolls with the opportunity to get in on the action.

For pros like Astedt, it is not uncommon to play in major events at all the top sites offered in their region. This spreads the action over several tournaments, providing more ways to compete and hopefully win. For Astedt, the weekend was fruitful and it will not be surprising to find the pro doing it all over next weekend.
