Ocean Boss Appointed as First Female President of NJ Casino Trade Body

The CEO of Atlantic City’s Ocean Casino Resort, Terry Glebocki, has been appointed as the new president of the Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ), news emerged this week.

Glebocki is the first female president of the trade organization which represents the state’s nine operational casinos, with all of them being based in Atlantic City. CANJ seeks to protect and promote casino-style gambling in the state through various programs and legislative efforts.

Glebocki succeeds Steve Callender who stepped down from the role of president of CANJ last month. She has been at the helm of Ocean Casino Resort since 2019 when the property was purchased by New York-based hedge fund Luxor Capital Group LP.

As the new CANJ president, Glebocki brings more than three decades of financial management and casino industry experience, having previously served as Chief Financial Officer at Ocean Casino Resort and Tropicana entertainment Inc.

Three of Atlantic City’s nine casino resorts are currently managed by women. Glebocki now being in charge of the trade body representing the local industry comes as another signal that the land-based casino space of New Jersey is becoming more and more inclusive.

Last year, Melonie Johnson took over leadership of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa as its president, while Caesars Entertainment, Inc. hired Jacqueline Grace as Tropicana’s senior vice president and general manager.

Looking Forward to Being at the Helm

Of her new role, Glebocki said that she feels “privileged and honored to succeed Steve Callender.” She praised the former CANJ president for successfully leading the organization during the pandemic and said they are all “grateful for the strength and leadership he has shown in these unprecedented times.”

Glebocki further noted that she is now focused on leading the association forward as they work to help Atlantic City and the region recover from the worst health crisis the world has seen in many years and to continue the “ongoing revitalization of this world-class destination resort.”

The CANJ, AtlantiCare, and the UNITE HERE Local 54 labor union have been working together to prioritize the vaccination of 25,000 casino workers by Memorial Day. Workers at the nine casinos began receiving Covid-19 jabs on March 29 at the Atlantic County Covid-19 Vaccination Megasite.

The new CANJ president said that they have ensured workers will be offered additional opportunity to get vaccinated by Memorial Day and that they will also continue to employ their “wide-ranging, comprehensive health protocols to ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable experience.”

Commenting on the fact that more women have been taking senior management positions at Atlantic City’s casinos, Glebocki said that she is proud of her fellow female executives “who are paving the way for other talented women to join the leadership ranks, further transforming the gaming industry into a more diverse and dynamic workplace and that she is looking forward to being at the helm of the CANJ “during this challenging yet exciting time for our industry.”
