Gary O’Brien has a selection in Listowel’s feature race today, the Kerry Group Chase at 16:50…
It may not be a ‘festival’ in the true sense of the word this year, but Listowel should nevertheless provide its usual share of entertainment over the next seven days and plenty of familiar names are set to clash in the Kerry Group Chase at 16:50.
The National Hunt track has had to be watered in the run up to the fixture but there is a strong possibility of rain arriving on Tuesday and that has led to a couple of potential candidates for Wednesday’s Guinness Kerry National being diverted to this afternoon’s feature. The Storyteller, who would have top-weight to carry in the week’s showpiece event, looks by far the most likely winner of this after scoring on his last two starts at Galway but is priced up accordingly and it might be worth focussing instead on the “two chances” market.
Paloma Blue heads the market here, but while this talented individual finally returned to winning ways at Wexford last time it is worth remembering that he had been soundly beaten into third by Peregrine Run on his previous start at Killarney and Peter Fahey’s stalwart can confirm that form now.
This wonderful 10-year-old, who is seeking a remarkable 18th career success today, was not at his best in either of his last two outings but has wisely been given a bit of time off following what was a busy spell and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back. Today’s sound surface is the key ingredient for that to scenario to materialise, and he seems particularly at home in small fields such as this.
All told he looks a fair bet without the favourite at 13/8 on the Betfair Sportsbook in a race that should be soundly run with the trail-blazing Djingle in the line-up.
