A Win for Chelsea and a Draw for Madrid at the Weekend
Real booked their place in the last four with an impressive 3-1 win over Liverpool, and have generally saved their big performances this season for the UCL, while the Blues from west London secured their place via a nerve-jangling 2-1 aggregate win over Porto. But it’s Chelsea who comes into this game off the back of a win – a 1-0 away win at West Ham in a London derby – while at the weekend Los Blancos labored to a disappointing 0-0 draw with Real Betis.

For Madrid, it was disappointing as a win would have taken them top of La Liga but with one eye on this semifinal, they fell below their recent high standards. They do, however, have some excellent UCL history to fall back on, especially in the knockout phase. While they made hard work of the group stage, wins over Atalanta and Liverpool in the round of 16 and quarterfinal stages have set them up perfectly for another tilt at winning this competition.

Tuchel Magic at the Bridge
Chelsea’s progress has been steady throughout and even the departure of Frank Lampard from the manager’s hot seat and the arrival of the experienced Thomas Tuchel did nothing to hinder their UCL progress. Until the close shave against Porto, it has been fairly plain sailing, with their fine win over Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 the pick of the bunch. The Blues’ weekend success in the East End – Timo Werner scored the only goal – will have been the ideal preparation for this huge clash.

17 Unbeaten for Real
A problem for Chelsea here is they face a Madrid side who have been on a 17-game unbeaten run, during which no team has managed to score more than once against them, and the Betis draw ended a home run of five consecutive wins. Also worth noting is that Los Blancos have conceded just twice in their last five Champions League games and have won nine of their last ten UCL knockout matches – an outstanding record.

For Tuchel’s Chelsea, in addition to them closing in on a Champions League spot next season – they are currently fourth in the EPL – they also have an FA Cup Final against Leicester City upcoming, and so on the eve of this big semifinal, the Blues are in a really good place. The decision to replace Lampard with Tuchel has gone better than the Chelsea board and owner could ever have wished.

The German’s record since arriving at Stamford Bridge has been exemplary, with the only two blemishes being a couple of home defeats early in his tenure, but most spectacular of all has been their away form, with no defeats in Tuchel first ten road trips – eight of them victories. So, an away trip to Madrid, especially one that is not taking place in the grandeur of the Bernabéu Stadium, holds no fears for the Blues.

Real Madrid vs Chelsea Best Bets
While both clubs are still reeling from the implications of their respective roles in the failed European Super League, for 90 minutes at least it will be their actions on the pitch that dictates their short-term futures. Tuchel’s knack of making Chelsea hard to beat will come to the fore here although with Madrid being on a long unbeaten run and with the stakes so high, this will be tight and edgy, For me, the value is very much with a low-scoring, or possibly no-scoring, draw.
Pick: Real Madrid & Chelsea to draw (+220)
