The bout was originally slated to happen in early December, but Campbell tested positive for COVID-19 in November which, led to the rescheduling.

Ryan Garcia’s Biggest Test

Ryan Garcia is one of the more hotly discussed rising stars all throughout the sweet science landscape and he checks off a ton of boxes for becoming a global superstar in the sport.

The last pair of victories for Garcia against Romero Duno and Francisco Fonseca both came in the very first round for the ballyhooed pugilist. Garcia last fought in February and is looking to maintain his traction leading into 2021 here.

Ryan Garcia has been working with Eddy Reynoso, who trains pound-for-pound pugilist Canelo Alvarez. Garcia has been spectacular so far, but Campbell represents a sizeable step up in competition for the young warrior.

Luke Campbell’s Shot at Redemption

Luke Campbell is a 2012 Olympic gold medalist and has been in there with some of the division’s best as a pro including, Vasyl Lomachenko and Jorge Linares.

Campbell’s last outing saw him fall short in a bid for the 135-pound world titles of then-champion Lomachenko in August 2019. Campbell steps back into the ring after not competing once during 2020.

The winner positions themselves as the WBC mandatory for a future crack at WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney. Gervonta Davis could also emerge as an opponent for the winner here, which is to say that there are numerous great options for the victor of Garcia vs Campbell.

This is a significant crossroads fight for both as Garcia is positioned as the young warrior looking to claim his most significant scalp yet. For Campbell, it gives him a chance at redemption and to show he can break through into that next tier.

Super Bowl 55 Odds Tracker

Garcia seems to have the advantage in terms of being more of a one-punch KO artist. You can argue that Campbell has a sharpened sense of ring technique and a more refined fight IQ from his vast amateur resume.

Luke Campbell knows how to dispatch opponents too though. His more volume-heavy approach to turning out the lights has garnered him an eighty percent knockout rate overall.

Ryan Garcia vs Luke Campbell Tale of the Tape

20-0 Record 20-3
17 Knockouts 16
5’10 Height 5’9
70″ Reach 71″
Francisco Fonseca, Romero Duno, Jose Lopez Significant Wins Algenis Mendez, Gary Sykes, Tommy Coyle

Across Luke Campbell’s three pro losses, he has never been halted inside the distance. It will be curious to see if Garcia’s KO power wins the day or if the proven durability and titanium jawline of Campbell pays dividends.

This one is scheduled for twelve rounds, but ultimately, I do not see this one going to the judges’ scorecards.

I think there’s value in going with props on this fight not going the distance (-159), Ryan Garcia winning by KO or TKO (+100) and, Garcia winning between rounds 4-6 (+475).

Pick: Ryan Garcia (-380)
