Southwell betting tips

16.15 – Ladbrokes Watch Racing Online For Free Handicap – 1m

This is a tricky five-runner affair to kick off our Southwell tips, but SMART QIBILI sets the standard based on his recent RPR’s and form in general. He has to concede weight to his four rivals but may well be equal to the task given his initial lenient-looking handicap mark of 75.

Marco Botti’s charge is feared most ahead of BLUE HERO, who looks capable of finding sufficient improvement to get involved. In receipt of 7Ib from the top-weight could prove pivotal in the context of this event.

Selections: SMART QIBILI, BLUE HERO

16.45 – Bombardier British Hopped Amber Beer Handicap – 7f

MOTAWAAFEQ resumed winning ways when capitalising on the handicapper’s mercy over one-mile here last month. He’s nudged up 2Ib as a result but looks well treated on past form, particularly when hitting the frame three times over C&D from marks of 77, 77 and 76 in better graded events back in February-March last year.

BILLYFAIRPLAY has mainly been campaigned in Ireland, where he’s held his form substantially well for nearly two years. Crucially, he’s ran at this track three times previously, winning once and placing second on another occasion. He’s 5Ib lower returning to the West Midlands venue and makes plenty of appeal.

Selections: MOTAWAAFEQ, BILLYFAIRPLAY

17.15 – Betway Handicap – 6f

GIOGIOBBO found life tough since coming to the UK back in 2019 where his handicap mark started at a staggering 103. However, despite that stiff-enough mark proving beyond him, he’s consistently performed to a decent standard whilst his mark has continued to slide. Essentially, everything looks in place for another very good run at a track he handles well and I’d make him shorter than his current odds.

A glance through THRAVE’s recent form testifies his ability to make an impact at this level and he duly obliged over C&D when last in action, though that race looked a lot weaker than this event at first glance. Having said that, his mark looks exploitable.

Selections: GIOGIOBBO, THRAVE

17.45 – Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap – 2m

This is a wide-open handicap, so it could be worth taking a chance on LADY CAMELOT, who looks handicapped to strike for connections. He only ran one solid race for connections last year but there were positives to glean from his second on his penultimate outing and if he can reproduce that sort of performance here, he’d be no forlorn hope to gain an overdue success.

Being the only C&D winner in the line-up, ARTISTIC STREAK has strong claims of returning to the winner’s enclosure despite his mark gradually going up. He proved his well-being when third at Wolverhampton last time out off a 1Ib lower mark and looks to have a leading chance.

Selections: LADY CAMELOT, ARTISTIC STREAK

18.15 – Betway Casino Novice Stakes – 6f

There was plenty to like about KEVIN THE MINION’s runner-up effort over C&D last month when splitting two decent individuals. He’s up against unexposed rivals and this race, itself, demands another personal best, but Karl Burke’s charge may well be equal to the task and his experience will give him a distinct advantage over the remainder of the field.

James Tate’s TIME FRAME made an encouraging debut when third at Wolverhampton in a maiden and is likely to improve with that all-important experience under her belt for a yard in terrific form.

Selections: KEVIN THE MINION, TIME FRAME

18.45 – Play 4 To Score At Betway Handicap – 1m6f

SHINE BABY SHINE won nicely over C&D on her penultimate start and that race had the feeling of a stronger event compared to the one she’ll encounter tomorrow. The return to this trip will be more suitable and she’s expected to be in the firing line dropping down in grade.

ARCHIPPOS is looking to end a long losing run that has mounted up since 2018. However, he showed a bit more improvement over C&D when last seen and makes some each-way appeal having slipped to a career-low mark and is the final selection in our Southwell betting preview.

Selections: SHINE BABY SHINE, ARCHIPPOS
