Timeform pick out the three best bets at Nottingham on Sunday.
“He now makes the switch to handicaps and will command plenty of respect…”
Timeform on Imperial Sun
Nankeen – 13:45 Nottingham
Nankeen looked a bright prospect when making a winning debut at Windsor three weeks ago, keeping going well to land the spoils by a neck in ready fashion. He looks sure to improve with that experience under his belt and should mount a bold bid to defy a penalty in this novice event, representing the Simon and Ed Crisford yard which continues in good heart (70% of horses running to form).
Brentford Hope – 15:30 Nottingham
Brentford Hope failed to meet expectations when only fifth in a listed race at Windsor two weeks ago, but this looks an excellent opportunity for him to resume winning ways now back in a handicap. The balance of his form suggests a BHA mark of 98 is more than fair, while it’s also worth pointing out that the best efforts of his career have all come with give in the ground. He can get back on track here before raising his sights again for a race such as the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot.
Imperial Sun – 16:00 Nottingham
Imperial Sun was a bit disappointing when only third on his reappearance in a novice event at Windsor, but he is clearly better than that, as he showed when fourth in a race which is proving very strong form at Kempton in November. He now makes the switch to handicaps and will command plenty of respect from an opening BHA mark of 77, with further progress on the cards now stepping up to a mile and a quarter.
