Timeform’s three best bets at Pontefract on Monday 7 June

Timeform provide the three best bets at Pontefract on Monday.

“…he could be hard to peg back in this small field…”

Timeform on A Star Above

A Star Above – 18:45 Pontefract

A Star Above is a likeable type who produced a career-best effort when resuming winning ways over a mile and three quarters at Newmarket last time, clearly coming on for his reappearance and seeing the trip out strongly. He is usually ridden prominently, a tactic which is seen to good effect round here, and he could be hard to peg back in this small field.

Young Tiger – 19:15 Pontefract

Young Tiger won a course-and-distance handicap last year in good style, and shaped as if retaining all of his ability on his return from six months off at Newmarket last time. He wasn’t seen to best effect held up in the rear in a steadily-run race, but ran on in the closing stages and seems sure to strip fitter for that effort. He has a good draw in stall 2 and a bold bid is expected.

Bergerac – 20:45 Pontefract

Bergerac looks a much-improved performer this year, finishing runner-up to a progressive sort on reappearance, and bolting up by six lengths over course and distance in April. He seemed to be suited by a more positive ride, proving in a different league to his rivals, and for all he advantages on the day, a subsequent 10 lb rise is justified. There could be more to come.
