Wilson Powering Vaunted Seahawks Offense
The Seahawks return home after turning in another impressive performance in last week’s 31-23 win in Miami. The Seattle offense has now scored an impressive 35.5 points per game so far this season, second only to the Green Bay Packers. That has paid dividends for loyal sports bettors, who have cashed in on four straight against-the-spread wins.
Seattle’s fast start has been powered by the spectacular play of Russell Wilson. The Seahawks quarterback has been dominant through the first month of the campaign, tying an NFL record by tossing 16 touchdown passes through the first four weeks, against just two picks. And with last week’s 360-yard performance against the Dolphins, Wilson also sits among the league leaders, averaging 321.3 passing yards per game and a career-best 75.2% pass completion percentage.

The Seahawks iron man has also enjoyed the spotlight when playing during prime time, connecting on 19 total scoring passes while leading the team to victory in seven of their past nine appearances. Wilson has been particularly spectacular while playing under the lights on home turf, reaching the end zone 16 times over the Seahawks’ past five primetime contests at CenturyLink Field.
Those trends make him hard to ignore as a -118 bet to toss for OVER 2.5 touchdowns on Sunday night. But while the Vikings arrive in Seattle looking to get their season on track after opening on a shaky 1-3 run, Wilson will have to contend with the both the chance of wet weather and a Minnesota pass defense that has shown steady improvement since the team opened the campaign with a 43-34 loss to Green Bay.
Trends Working Against Minnesota
Despite sitting near the bottom of the NFL team stats after allowing 31.3 points per game through Week 4, the Vikings defense has surrendered just three total touchdown passes since their season-opening loss to the Packers.
Observation #20 – Vikings win over Texans – While the Vikings need a vocal leader on offense & defense, Eric Kendricks “quietly” delivered 12 tackles today and continues to be a leader by example. #vikings

However, a dismal track record in recent dates with the Seahawks, and a rash of injuries that has particularly impacted their defense, loom as big issues for the Vikings. Minnesota enters Sunday night’s matchup riding a six-game SU losing streak against the Seahawks. That run includes four straight defeats at CenturyLink Field, including two in primetime, with the Vikings surrendering an average of 32.3 points per game.
Vikings Defense Dealing With Injuries
The squad’s corps of cornerbacks has struggled to stay healthy. Mike Hughes is looking set to return after missing two games with a neck injury. However, both Holton Hill and Kris Boyd remain questionable.

Even with the possibility, if not the likelihood of rain at game time, this matchup is a favorable one for the Seahawks. In addition to another outstanding performance from Russell, the key to victory for Seattle will be containing the Vikings offense early on, particularly rusher Dalvin Cook, who has run for three first-half scores over the past two weeks. However, the Seahawks have been up to the challenge against the rush, ranking third with just 75.8 ground yards per game allowed so far this season.
While the potential exists for lots of scoring on Sunday night, that scenario would bide well for the Seahawks, who look poised to extend both their win streak against the Vikings and their perfect record on the season.
Best Bets: Seahawks -6.5 (-115); OVER 56 (-115)
