Liberty Impressing Early
One of the biggest storylines early in the WNBA season has been the rise of the Liberty and the start they have gotten off to in the first few weeks of the new year. After finishing 2020 with a record of 2-20 overall, New York has already doubled its win total from a year ago and could end up making a run by the end of the year if it continues to improve.
Sitting near the top of the league standings already at 4-1, New York will continue to get better now with the addition of Natasha Howard, who joined her new team in Sunday’s win and made her Liberty debut with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Led by Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney and now Howard, this New York team will be a tough team for any other WNBA squad to face and battle on any given night.
Wings Missing Key Pieces
Entering the season, Dallas was viewed as a team that would likely be near the bottom of the WNBA standings and perhaps one of the four teams that would miss the postseason as it continues to try and rebuild this summer.
At 1-1 overall, the Wings haven’t looked too bad and could end up surprising a few people, although they won’t be serious contenders throughout the rest of the summer.
One thing that has hurt Dallas to this point in the year has been the fact that it is still missing some key pieces, with Satou Sabally and Awak Kuier yet to arrive after playing overseas and Allisha Gray departing the team for now to take part in the United States Women’s 3×3 National Team’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The Wings have put up a pair of good games to begin the season, but a mixture of missing key players and youth on the team could spell for an up-and-down season for Dallas this year.
Best Bet and Prediction
Looking at this matchup in Brooklyn on Monday night, it’s tough to go against New York while it returns home to welcome in Dallas to Barclays Center. The Liberty are a much improved team, having already claimed victory over teams such as Minnesota and Chicago, two squads who will be playoff teams and could make deep postseason runs.
Along with looking impressive in the early stages of the regular season schedule, New York has also shown the ability through the first few games that it is a tough team to take down on its home floor in Brooklyn, going into Monday night with a record of 2-0 at home.
Dallas, on the other hand, is a perfect 1-0 on the road, having claimed its lone victory of the season on May 14th at the Los Angeles Sparks.
With that said, the Liberty will round out the second night of a back-to-back with a win over the Wings. As far as the best bet for the game, go with New York being 1.5-point favorites in this one.
- Best Bet: Liberty -1.5 (-112)
